I've come across several things lately that I think are of special note:
Best description of a panic attack
Best new idea for a blog via Blogliners BOTD
Best first sentence of a post: "Cream cheese (Malai Chaska) and crackers, carrot soup and pomegranate for lunch."
Great discussion of parenting/ daycare issues (relevant to this post)
The Propaganda Remix Project via media girl
Best recipes blog via flea (OK, so I don't cook & this is the only foodie blog I've looked at. Sue me.)
More Blog Bests, via Exclamation Mark

There were several interesting comments to my post about the 2004 Weblog Awards, including a note from Genuine about the new Best of Blogs Awards:
Why another blog awards? After we saw the list of finalists for the Wizbang 2004 Weblog Awards, we realized something was missing. Why the heavy focus on politics? Why were the smaller blogs not getting the recognition they deserved? Why was no one honoring blogs devoted to everyday concerns . . . the BoB Awards go out of their way to recognize the great efforts of those online diarists who blog about their minutiae of their life...and entertain hundreds of others in the process.
Nominations are open now, until December 24th. Anyone can nominate a blog, but one is not supposed to nominate one's own (hint hint - Watermark would qualify as a new blog, and perhaps some other categories.) Some categories that I think should be separated have been combined (Best Poetry/Photo/Art Blog) and some seem to me to be missing, such as Most Beautiful Blog. The categories are:
Best Overall Blog
Best New Blog
Most Humorous Blog
Biggest Blog Whore (I'm not too happy with the title of this one, meant to describe "the blogger who most aggressively markets his or her work across the blogosphere" )
Best Mommy Blog
Best Daddy Blog
Best Adoption/Fertility Blog
Best Book/Literary Blog
Best Sex Blog
Most Inspirational Blog
Best LGBT Blog
Snarkiest Blog
Best Weight Loss/Fitness Blog
Best Education/Homeschooling Blog
Best Knitting/Craft Blog
Best Cooking/Recipes Blog
Best Sports Blog
Best Music Blog
and finally:
Best Poetry/Photo/Art Blog
I have made some nominations, and learned something by doing so -- the blogs I like are "inspirational." They may fall under another category, but I read them because they inspire me. I will be going back over the next few days to add more, because it really is these small, personal blogs that I read, and appreciate, the most.

What, no category for garden blogs?

Best Blogs With a Female Spirit:
I would have thought of you and a dozen or two other women who I am very proud of, not just for their extraordinary writing ability, but also for the inspirational way they live their lives, the way their brains work, the way their hearts beat.
Then I clicked on the link and found myself smiling, once again, at Shelley's writing.
She never disappoints, does she?
