I chose #4, the black & white, but it's the design I like; I'd like to see it in just the neutral pinky-beige tones instead of the white.

I chose #4, but #5, your current one, is a close second. Susan's suggestion of #4 but in that pinky neutral is a perfect idea. I'd go with that, myself.

I voted for 4, but to be honest, I'm not crazy about any of them. The black background looks wrong. And I'm not sure about keeping the old font for "a poet's notebook".

It's interesting, hearing about this. I guess I didn't give wide choices; they are all black. I think I'm wanting more drama in my life.

Dave, I thought of you when I did the font -- I remember that you don't like it. My thinking was, these small case letters are less "fancy", and still provide some continuity -- along with the shell -- with the old design.

But I can be influenced. Within reason.

Also, I notice no one is commenting on the other site banners; probably not a good sign. Which is not to say I'll change them.

Just noticing...

Dave

The drama - for me at least - is in your words. (Well, your photos are quite good, too.) All the rest is window dressing.

But as for that window dressing, the sidebar gives the strong impression of an active sense of fun. And in fact, your blog *is* fun. So I think your instincts for the new banner were partly right. No. 1 might actually be the best fit - without the black background.
