Virtual Cats, Again
Last week I got a note from:
... which reminded me that it's time to do another Virtual Cats post (the first one is here.) Virtual Cats is the second most popular search term that brings folks to Watermark, right after Orange Cats (oh, and there's another virtual cat, an orange one, there) so it's no doubt time to update it.
Nekoface insists that s/he is not virtual, but a real cat from the future; and forgives my confusion.
First, for virtual exhibition of real cats, go here:
- The Carnival of the Cats at The House of Mostly Black Cats
- On Sunday, the new carnival will be at This That and the Other Thing
- Weekend Cat Blogging at A Byootaful Life
- Bad Kitty Cats Festival of Chaos: Bad Kitty is still recovering from being hacked.
- & Friday Ark at Modulator
And now, on to the virtual:
There are virtual cats that live on your computer:
Neko on your (Windows) desktop
You can also put Neko on your website, if you can figure out how. I tried it on my Cats page, but no luck so far.
MeowMix offers a MeowPal for your desktop.
BlueCross has a pet for your (Windows) desktop. Is that the insurance company? I don't know -- I found it here.
pawsonline has several desktop cats, including this disreputable looking character. I'm not sure, but I think that these are all for Windows.
There are virtual cats that live in their own online world:
Create a pet at Marapets, a free virtual pet site with 16 fun-filled virtual worlds and dress up dolls. (Warning: popups!)
And, of course, there's Neopets. (Is that a cat? I can't tell...)
Ah, Cathy to the rescue! Here is a Neopet cat, named Dante:
That's more like it ...
And there are virtual cats that can live on your blog or website:
You can adopt a kitty from Madame Alto's Cat House. I thought this little white one might look cool here, on the white background. There are six different kitties to choose from.
From LaoyoutCodez -- Warning! Truly obnoxious popups!
And finally, one of my favorites:
Now go have a real weekend.

Felix used to be a download desktop cat (I have him on my Windows machine) but now seems to live only on his own very cool but very high-bandwidth website.
