Of all the cats, Orange Cats are best!

OK, OK, before you others come at me claws-out, all the cats are best. Grey cats, black cats, white cats, striped cats -- you are all marvels. Every single one of you. There's just something about the humans owned by orange cats that drives them to the internet, doing orange cat searches that land them here at Watermark.

I recently received a rather rudely-phrased comment, complaining that there is no list of names for orange cats here. Well, there ya go. Some of these are cats of my acquaintance, or cats who live with long-tall-biped people who stop by here to tell their orange cat stories. And then, of course, I have my own anonymous sources...

You will find more orange cats at Watermark, with lots of other orange cat links:

Spike wishes you a great weekend:

[Hmm. There should be pictures of Spike there. I'm in a TypePad beta, and there have been a few glitches -- I bet this is one of them. I'll submit a help ticket, and you should see him there soon.]

Here's a graceful photo of Spike, to hold you over:

God Is Watching Us [an old poem]

oscar-in-the-window-200

The cat in the window admires
  the sparrows. Longing trembles
from the back of her throat. She loves
the quills of the feathers, the little stick
feet, the delicate veins in the wings.

Cat Herding

Yes, I've been neglectful of my responsibilities to the cat blogging world. But this -- this -- is too good to pass up. In honor of my cat blogging and Montana friends, I present:

My uncles would have loved this. Thanks to Facebook friend Sheri for sending it to me.

Valentine

  Happy Valentine's Day

. . . and a poem from Anne B. Grote:

Valentine Evening

Roses, wine, your love
We are like aging seasons
as the lutes play on

Do you have a Valentine haiku? Add it in comments -- or email it to me -- and I'll bring it up to this post. Any kind of haiku is welcome.

And, if you haven't yet, INTRODUCE YOURSELF! and get acquainted with other Watermark visitors.

Friday Cat Blogging

Ask the Agony Cats

We had planned an edition of ASK THE AGONY CATS today (we have two letters in the queue) but our stenographer is a bit under the weather:

sb-modigliani

She'll be in a bit later, though, to update this week's cat links.

A bit later:

You will find this week's cats here:

Save These Cats' Jobs!

Ask the Agony Cats

If you think that only humans are suffering from the current economic woes, think again. Boo and Spike have been out of work for months. They are free- lancers, they get paid on commission. If no one asks for their assistance, they don't have any columns to write, and they don't get paid. No new toys, no catnip, no little meeces.

Look at these pitiful, distraught, unemployed critters:

orange tabby manx     grey tabby manx

Don't you want to help?

Ask the AgonyCats will appear at unpredictable, feline intervals, depending on cat moods and the mailbox. If you would like to solicit advice, comment or send an email to: askthecats AT sbpoet DOT com. Boo and/or Spike will be happy to respond. Maybe.

Both AgonyCats have a great deal of experience in inter-species relationships, though they bring somewhat different perspectives to the situations they encounter. Any problem submitted for their consideration is assured of the utmost discretion, expertise, and privacy.*  Feline correspondents will, of course, have priority.

*[Discretion and privacy are guaranteed, except that letters will be published for the readers of this blog; and the readers of any excerpts published outside of this blog; and any over-the-fence or under-the-sheets conversationalists. No solution is guaranteed to be effective under any circumstance, and AgonyCats accepts no liability for hurt feelings, inadvertent or deliberately inflicted wounds, or any other damages that may ensue from incorrectly or correctly implementing any suggestions herein. Whatsoever. Etcetera.]

We will be checking for your helpful, help-needed response.

Political Cats

Friday Cat Blogging   Friday Cat Blogging is intended to provide a break from the political steam of the blogosphere:

"The Carnival of the Cats is a weekly roundup of cat-related posts on weblogs. Its purpose is to provide a non-political respite from the vehement echo chamber that the Blogosphere spins itself into during the week, demonstrating that even the mightiest and meekest of pundits have a love of cats in common,"  Laurence Simon

But, having dipped my toe into the water already this week, I decided to wade in a bit further, in honor of this primary season.

We humans have a tendency to plaster our politics on our chests, our car bumpers, and our coffee mugs. Zazzle is happy to offer the necessities.

We begin with the old-fashioned basics:

Bush Ate My Cat       Hillary Ate My Cat

Progress to the spiritual:

Everytime you vote Republican, God kills a kitten.       When you vote Democratic God kills a kitten

Descend to invective:

My cat shows more compassion that George W Bush does.       When you are old and eating cat food, thank a Republican!

Resort to puns:

Jake the cat says vote Democratic, otherwise you will cause a cat astrophy.

And, finally, appeal to the transcendent:

You can't handle the Truthiness!       Love Not War

(Yes, it does seem that cats lean Democratic.)

For some apolitical catness, try:

Cat Links from Ample Sanity

Amplel Sanity Mascot

Ample Sanity is undergoing a design change, which will pull old posts out of publicly available archives. Anne is a gifted link-finder, and I couldn't bear the thought that those cat links would disappear forever (or at least for temporary) so I've gone in and stolen them. Some of them. And here they are:

The Ashera is the world's rarest and most exotic breed of domestic cat, and can reach a weight of thirty pounds. They are intelligent, very affectionate, and require the same care as any ordinary cat. Fully socialized, they get along well with children and other pets, and take well to being walked on a leash. Cost: 22,000.00 USD. Ashera Photo Gallery.

We're here to tell you about snow blindness in cats. It's affecting more and more cats each year, and it scares the living shit out of us. Ricky Bobby

Really, it's the most peculiar thing [says Anne]. Been scavenging for links all morning and though i've found eveything from fat cats surrounded by a sea of ads to an abundance of erotica (in which i'm sure you have no interest) -

Last night i asked the cat to say something funny. She simply gave me one of those withering surely-you-jest cat looks. Barely four minutes later, hurled a hairball. Emphasis, i presume.

So. We'll just have our own fun, shall we? Like, say, with Airborne Cats.

ooOOooo... cats, cats and more cats!

And here's one she would doubtless be posting now, if she weren't distracted by changing her blog (which will still be a terrific design, I know -- because they always are): Ron and Joe post some images for our New Year's Resolutions. This one is "Spend More Time With the Cat":

All About Cats

  cats cats cats

Spike and Boo recently came across NancyButtons.com, which has tons of buttons and bumperstickers all about cats. Just a sample:

  • Cats are nature's response to orderliness
  • Cats are roommates.  Dogs are kids.
  • Cats don't get into mischief.  Cats are mischief.
  • Cats know your every thought.  They don't care, but they know.
  • Do not meddle in the affairs of cats, for they are subtle and will piss on your computer.
  • I want a cat with a snooze button
  • If you want the best seat in the house, move the cat.
  • IT's HARd to tYpe wHILe holdINf a Cat
  • Why is the door always on the wrong side of the cat?
  • You don't need to have a cat to be a writer.  You can bat your own pencils around.
  • Kittens: self-propelled dewy-eyed barbed wire in a mohair sweater
  • Books. Cats. Life is good.
  • Cats humor us because they know that their ancestors ate ours.
  • It's a cat thing--you wouldn't understand
bouncy, hissy, yellow cat
