Snapshot Poem

 

this morning 

 

there is still snow 

after a day of thaw 

and a night of freeze 

 

snow crusted with ice 

 

the dowitcher

with the broken wing 

 

in a cage 

in the basement 

 

still lives 

 

but the cat has not 

given up
