[UPDATE 9 April 02009]
Well, I think the answer to the question
- Would anyone really be interested in this?
is: NO.
So I'm going to let this slide back down the page.
[I'm going to keep this post at the top for a few days, since I'm still looking for help with Facebook Pages.]
I've been helping a friend set up an Etsy shop and develop an online presence to support that. One of the things I've been learning to do is to set up a Facebook Fan Page.
Since she's inspired me to try a shop of my own, I began with a fan page for my shop (not yet established) as practice. I quickly realized that our pages will be quite different. Hers will be centered around her shop and the amazing things she makes. I'm not a crafter, but I can make bookmarks. Here are some I made as gifts about four years ago:
Niki's
shop will attract many folks, because her work is so wonderful; mine
will most likely be of interest only to friends, family, and readers of
my blogs. Her shop will be up within the week, and her blog
is already going. My schedule is much more relaxed, and I hadn't
intended to publish a fan page for several weeks. But I got a few
nudges, some to do with needing to test out how this really works, and
then this one:
Poet a Day Blog >> Watermark A Poets Notebook
Allow me to introduce you to Sharon Brogan. No, really - ALLOW me. It is my true pleasure to share her work with you. Versatile, evocative and moving are just a few words that describe Brogan’s poetry - but don’t take my word for it. ...
I thought, my goodness, this is a fan! Maybe I have more?
[There is a lot in this review for me to think about; I'll be sharing that thinking in a later post.]
So this morning I published it: the sbpoet fan page at facebook. Of course, I would like to have fans; but even more, I would like to have feedback, and answers to several questions:
- I believe this can be seen by folks who are not Facebook members, but can you post to the Wall if you are not a Facebook member?
- I'm assuming that you can't 'fan me' if you're not a Facebook member?
- What should/could be the different functions of the Wall and the Discussion Board?
- The Watermark feed is pulled into this Page; does this mean that people who are both my friends and Facebook fans will see everything twice?
- What else would you like to see on this Page?
- Would anyone really be interested in this?
Most of my Facebook 'friends' are actually online friends, who found me through Watermark or Abide. It seems to me, perhaps mistakenly, that they might be more interested in this Page, with fewer, and more targeted updates, than the confusion of writer/ poet/ personal stuff they get now. If they do get all that; I may well be on a less-viewed list.
If you're willing, please check out the Page, and let me know what you think -- either there, or here. And of course, you are welcome to fan me!
