light comes up in the east
drowsy, i turn in my bed
drea . . .
!CAT ATTACK!
*********
OK, maybe not. This one?

autumn-colored squirrel
digging at the bird feeder
if i see you clearly

Animal
On the afternoon of the morning
my neighbor showed off his new slingshot
I find a dead squirrel stiffening in the grass.
Is she someone I know? Did she grow up
with her siblings at my backyard feeder?
The nick on her ear seems familiar, but then
my neighbor and I, we are human and she
was just another animal.

I did this for a self-paced class at Big Picture called Design Your LIfe, by Cathy Zielske. This assignment was "repetition." Template from Cathy Zielske. All photos from Alpine Canine.
The "journaling" reads:
When Kate, of Alpine Canine, first met Henry, she was sure he could handle the big-dog hike. She had to carry him out. Actually, she had to carry him to the bus; he didn’t want to go with this stranger.
Now, every Tuesday & Thursday morning, Henry makes sure I’m up in time to watch him stare at the front door in anticipation. He runs to the bus. He goes on the “Senior” hike. He is, after all, “senior”. This keeps him a young & happy senior.
All photos from Alpine Canine, and I’m glad they share them with me.

For thirteen years, it was a rare moment that Lucy (Lady Elucibeth) was not at my heel, or my shoulder, or on my lap. Lucy had all those qualities that we admire in dogs: faithfulness, loyalty, bravery, and deep, abiding love.
Plagued by fears beyond her control (the monster in the oven) Lucy rallied her courage every day to climb those steep stairs; to go through threatening doorways; to do her important and dangerous job of defending and protecting those under her care. She raised her foster-puppy, Henry, with great patience and sturdy example.
Lucy leaves this bereft human; Henry, her companion of ten years (who still looks for her); and many passionately-loved human friends who will miss her noisy, ecstatic greetings.
